Caught this on Instapundit: A mother of two was confronted by an intruder into her home while her husband was away. Cornered in the attic, she shot the intruder several times with a .38 Revolver. The catch? She hit him 6 times and he was still standing. Read on below the fold:
“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” [Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman] told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.
“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.
The woman ran to a neighbor’s home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said. [Emphasis added]
Slater– who was taken to the hospital with punctured lungs, a punctured liver, and a punctured stomach– has reportedly been arrested six times since 2008.
A .38 revolver isn’t really a slouch with the right ammunition. But with Full Metal Jacket rounds, I can see this being a reasonable characterization of that caliber. The man was shot 6 times, and was still mobile and a threat. Typically, in firearms classes, you’re taught to shoot to end the threat, which means death or immobilization. If they keep squirming and trying to get at you, you’re supposed to keep putting lead into them.
Many of our opponents would have people believe that 10 rounds is plenty enough, but it’s not. People miss their target, people have to clear malfunctions or light primer strikes (which result in lost rounds), and above all, people hit their targets and need to keep hitting them. This woman did everything right. Given that it was a revolver, no higher capacity exists past 7 rounds. But with a proper semi-auto, she could’ve shot this perpetrator and kept hitting him as long as he was being a threat.
Thoughts?
Gun grabbers think firearms are like magic wands – you just wave them in the general direction of a threat, and the threat drops dead – just like in the movies!
